Track the lob and finish the point.

Few things are more frustrating than missing an easy overhead. The good news is that most misses come from the same few causes: not turning sideways early, letting the ball drift behind you, and swinging too hard.

Start with the setup. As soon as you see the lob, turn your shoulders, bring the racquet up early and point at the ball with your non-hitting hand. Then move your feet so the ball stays slightly in front of your hitting shoulder. The step-by-step lessons below show this positioning clearly.

Once the setup is automatic, work on placement over power: an overhead aimed at a big target with three-quarter pace wins far more points than a full swing at the line. Learn the bounce overhead for very high or deep lobs too. The serve and overhead share much of the same motion, so improving one usually helps the other.
