Carlos Alcaraz Forehand Technique

6 video lessons

Where the most explosive forehand on tour gets its power.

Quick answer & tips ▾

Alcaraz's forehand power comes from the ground up. He loads on his outside leg, rotates his hips and shoulders explosively, and keeps his arm relaxed so the racquet lags behind and then whips through contact at very high speed.

He prepares early with a compact take-back, which lets him hit with power even on fast balls, and he can switch from heavy topspin to a flatter, faster ball depending on the situation.

Key tips

  • Load your weight on the outside leg before swinging.
  • Let your hips and shoulders start the swing, not the arm.
  • Keep a relaxed grip for more racquet speed.
  • Prepare early so you can swing freely.
